Eucharistic
Ministers
Eucharistic
Ministers share the Body and Blood of Christ under the forms of
bread and wine, with other members of the Holy Name Faith Community
at Masses, during Communion services, and in homes.
The extraordinary ministers
of Communion should be mature Christians who receive Communion regularly
themselves, who take their faith seriously and live a Christian
life. It is their duty to see that during Communion, the greatest
respect is shown the Blessed Sacrament and those receiving. Eucharistic
Ministers must be commissioned by Father.
Greeters
These people
will distribute bulletins and make those that attend Mass feel welcome
to Holy Name Parish. Liturgical hospitality, much like the hospitality
we practice in our homes, is simply attention to people: communicating
to them that their presence is welcome, that they make a difference,
that we are glad they have come to worship with us.
Lectors
Lectors proclaim
The Word of the God at our liturgies. Preparation sessions are required
and are provided by the parish and diocese. Resources for the readings
are provided.
Music
Ministry
Music is an
integral part of the Mass. It provides a way of praying that brings
joy to the heart. All parishioners are welcome to join any of the
choirs. An ability to sing most of the notes at the right time and/or
the ability to play an instrument in company with the singers are
all that is required. Practices are usually held once a week at
the Church.
| Sacristans |
| |
| The sacristans
are volunteers who come once a week for an hour or two, to: |
| ....
...wash altar
vessels |
| ....
...replace
used vigil lights and bottled candles |
| .... ...keep
the sacristy and cupboards in order |
| .... ...prepare
items needed for special liturgical celebrations |
| ....
...change
altar linens, banners for liturgical seasons |
| .... ...cleans
altar linens, cloths and vestments |
Servers
Servers are
an important part of our liturgy. They assist the celebrant during
the Mass. In order to be a server, one must have received First
Communion.
Ushers
Ushers are parishioners
who help with seating at Masses, and are responsible for taking
up the collection, and assisting with windows, fans and heaters
as needed. They find parishioners to participate in the Presentation
of the Gifts at the Offertory.
Church
Cleaners
The church cleaners
are responsible for the weekly cleaning of the church. They are
divided into teams and are scheduled so that each team cleans 5-6
times a year. Cleaners usually meet on Saturday morning at 9 am
and can expect the job to take about 2 hours. They vacuum the Sacristy,
the Sanctuary, the main part of the church and the vestibule, as
well as the pew cushions. Tile floors are swept and mopped, the
pews and fixtures are dusted and the bathroom is cleaned. The tables
are straightened and the books in the pews are organized.
Money
Counters
Money counters
are responsible for the weekly counting of the collection. They
are divided into teams of 2 and each team is scheduled to count
about 7 times a year. Counters meet at the parish office on Sunday
morning as arranged and can expect to spend 2-3 hours to complete
the counting process. Counters are trained by parish staff and must
be trustworthy, reliable and respectful of parishioners' privacy.
